BINTULU: Police here arrested a homeless man for causing injuries to his friend under a bridge in front of the Sing Kwong Medan Jaya supermarket last week.

Recently, a video of a homeless man being hit on the head by his friend on May 27 went viral on social media.

Bintulu OCPD, Supt Batholomew Umpit, in a statement, said acting on public information, a police team was despatched to the scene. It found the injured man at the scene.

The victim was taken to the Bintulu Hospital for treatment and is detained in the yellow zone for further treatment.

Investigation found that when the homeless man and his friend were under the influence of alcohol, a misunderstanding ensued between them, which led to the suspect hitting his friend with a stick.

“Last Sunday (May 29), the 34-year-old suspect was arrested by a police team led by Insp Askandal Madin.

“Aside from that, a 40 cm stick wrapped in a banner believed to have been used to hit the victim, was seized from the suspect,” he said.

Batholomew added that the suspect had been arrested for being involved in substance abuse.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
