KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has extended help to Chin Tze Shin, a dedicated volunteer of the NGO, who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in June.

According to a Hope Place statement on today (Oct 12), his condition has been deteriorating rapidly, leading to the necessity of using a stoma bag on a daily basis.

He has also resorted to eating more fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables, to enhance his wellbeing.

Chin is currently undergoing chemotherapy, with assistance from the Skim Peduli Kesihatan healthcare scheme for the B40 group, covering all his cancer treatments.

In addition to medical assistance, Hope Place Kuching has extended its support by providing basic food aid to Chin.

The 70-year-old currently lives in Stakan with his wife and his 31-year-old son, Fen, who works as a daily paid labourer.

Despite his circumstances, he has remained resilient with a positive outlook on life.

Notably, Chin has cultivated a thriving fruit and vegetable garden around his home.

Hope Place expressed admiration for the abundance of fresh produce such as pineapples, apple custards, banana trees, and ladyfingers, which he grows.

To supplement their income, Chin sells the harvested produce to a friend, who then markets it.
