KUCHING: A total of 100 underserved Chinese families received Chinese New Year festive items when volunteers from Hope Place paid them a visit recently.

In a press release, the non-governmental organisation said the festive items included fresh vegetables, eggs, cookies, boxes of mandarin oranges and dry food.

“We received hampers from generous donors, to be given to these less fortunate communities.

“The more than 60 volunteers, ranging from youths, retirees to businessmen, have one thing in their hearts, which is to give back to the community,” it said.

It added that since the end of January, they have been bringing different groups to underserved families.

“Many single parents, marginalised children and abandoned elderly were blessed with not only festive items, but the thought that there are people out there who do care for them.

“A lot of children and even elderly people received angpow or red packets, a tradition that is still continuing despite economic challenges now,” the NGO added.
