i-CATS lecturer bags gold at InTEX 2019

KUCHING: International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) lecturer Hisyammudin Maseri bagged gold at the Innovation Technology Expo (InTEX) held here recently. The two-day event drew 220 participants from various public and private higher learning institutions nationwide. Hisyammudin and his team came up with the “Cylindrical Detention Pond as Innovative Green Pavement System to reduce runoff under saturated condition”.

“The invention is a continuous project since four years ago under Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and the government. “I was assigned to the hydrological portion, which is part of the invention, while the other team members had their own responsibilities to complete our project,” Hisyammudin, 32, a civil engineering lecturer said.

He mentioned that one of the clients for the project is the Public Works Department, and it has assigned a company to buy the patent to be implemented in any impermeable area(s). Apart from that, he noted that the main idea of this invention came from Prof Dr Mohammad Abdul Mannan.

“Early this year, we went to UTM Johor to present our paper and it was selected for publication in the International Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience. “We did not expect to get the gold award, we are in the progress of completing the invention. Hopefully, next year we will be able to obtain funds to participate in international exhibitions or conferences,” he stated.Hisyammudin encouraged students and lecturers to get involved in innovation expos or exhibitions in future.
