SERIKIN: The construction of the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex in Serikin, slated to begin this year, is expected to provide a significant boost to the economies of Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly Sarawak.

This was stated by Deputy Minister for Transport, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, who also noted that the ICQS Serikin would facilitate cross-border movements between Sarawak and Indonesia.

He expressed hope that the construction of the ICQS Serikin could be expedited, emphasising its importance in easing vehicle movements for import and export purposes between the two countries.

“These allocations are crucial, and I hope that construction can commence as soon as possible. This will facilitate vehicle movements for import and export purposes between the two countries.”

He made these remarks following Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin’s visit to the Jagoi Babang border crossing (PLBN) on Monday (April 30).

Furthermore, Henry stressed the importance of ensuring that the design of the ICQS Serikin is on par with the Jagoi Babang PLBN and the use of passports for both checkpoints.

“The services at both border crossings must be uniform with the use of passports. This will ensure that tourist movements, user movements, and import-export movements are smoother and unrestricted.”

With the completion of the ICQS Serikin, he believed that the number of tourist arrivals for both countries will increase, as the border crossing is one of the closest entry points to the city of Kuching.
