KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined seven men RM700 or two weeks’ imprisonment each for being involved in illegal gambling.
All the accused, aged between 57 to 73, pleaded guilty to the offence before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
They were jointly charged under Section 7(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code for being involved in gambling activities in public.
They committed the offence in a gazebo at Kenyalang Park Traffic Garden on January 16.
According to the facts of the case, on January 16 at around 5.25pm, a police team from the D7 branch of the IPD Kuching Criminal Investigation Department raided a gazebo and arrested seven men who were gambling using tarp leaves.
The police team confiscated 52 playing cards and RM139 in cash.
