Illegal logs seized during ‘Op Landai’

Among the logs seized during ‘Op Landai’ in Tatau-Selangau last Monday.

BINTULU: A total of 170 logs of different species and sizes worth about RM34,000 were seized by the Bintulu Marine Police (PPM) near the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pelagau forest in Tatau-Selangau last Monday. The marine police in a statement revealed that the pile of timber was found by its team during ‘Op Landai’ at about 8.30am.

Further investigation revealed that the logs did not have any ownership stamps or tax marks and was obtained illegally without the permission of the Sarawak Forest Department (FDS). A police report was made at the Selangau Police Station and the case was referred to FDS Sibu branch for further action. In the meantime, members of the public are urged to report on deforestation, and unloading or transporting of suspicious timber to the relevant authorities.
