Illegally imported tortoises impounded

MIRI: Seven African Sulcata Tortoises were confiscated upon entry to Miri which was found done illegally with any valid documentation.

Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) enforcement team was given a tip about the illegal import of the tortoise species by the Malaysia Royal Customs Department on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, SFC stated that the tortoise were brought in without any valid or legal import as well as export documentation.

“A police report has been lodged regarding the seizure and all of the confiscated items have been brought to SFC office in Miri for further action.

“Thanks to the information provided by the Malaysian Royal Customs Department that has enabled the prevention of this crime of wildlife trafficking,” it said.
