Inaugural A-Level Graduation Ceremony for Lodge School

KUCHING: Lodge International School celebrated the outstanding achievements ofit’s Cambridge International A-Level students on 28 April with the first ever A-Level Graduation Ceremony.

At a glance a record number of 55 students graduated in the class of 2018 whereas over a thirdof the students achieved straight A’s in the November 2017 AS-Level examinations, the highest in the history of Lodge School.

Two students were recognised as Top in the World for AS-Level English Language and Top in Malaysia for AS-Level Biology while Han Ye Ri won the Director’s Award for Academic and Extracurricular Excellence.

A stepping stone to university

Since 2006 Lodge International School has provided a world class educational programme with its Cambridge International A-Levels. This stepping stone to University has allowed Lodge School graduates the opportunity to study in a wide variety of countries including the US, UK, Singapore, Australia and Japan.

For the record, Cambridge examinations are taken in over 40 countries around the world. Cambridge places learners at the centre of their international education programmes and qualifications which are inspired by the best in educational thinking.

Special Awards – Director’s Awards and Model Students

Han Ye Ri won the inaugural Director’s Award which highlights the student who combined academic and extracurricular excellence. She was a supremely deserving winner who was Top in Malaysia for her AS-Level Biologyresults and received a Distinction in the National Chemistry Quiz.

Within school she spends time as the Communication Officer for the Student Council and as a member of the Interact Club helped organise a Korean Day at SMK Kuching Town and conducted activities for the village children of Kampung Barieng in Bau.

Her volunteering also includes participating in the Colour Rush Run 5.0 organised by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society, team leading for the International Award

community project at the Lion’s Nursing Home and playing the keyboard for her local Korean Church.

Another student Allegra Chan Qin Hur (Model Student) recently celebrated her achievement as Top in the World for AS-Level English Language. She combined the role of Vice President of the Student Councilwith participation in the International Award, volunteering at the Sarawak Blind Society.

Chan achieved a ‘Highly Commendable’ award for the Trinity College Essay Writing Competition, represented the school at the Monash Rainforest Workshopand was an Adjudicator in the Swinburne Interschool Debate Championship.

She also went bald in the Go Bald campaign for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society.

Model Student, Oh SeoYeon was another member of the Interact Club who helped in the Korean Day and visit to SMK Kuching Town.

She also fundraised for the Kuching Autistic Association and participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp. As Secretary of the International Award Club she helped to organise the Lodge International Runners Wild Charity Run and volunteered at the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society. She is also a song leader in her local Korean Church.

Meanwhile, Song Yujin (Model Student)was President of the Interact Club and was instrumental in fundraising for the Kuching Autistic Association and Kampung Barieng. Taking part in the International Award she also volunteered at the Lion’s Nursing Home and participated in the Bronze Level camp. She attended the Mosquito Borne Diseases Workshop at Segi College and participated in the National Chemistry Quiz and American Mathematics Competition.
