Incentive programme benefits ten students

KAPIT:  A total of ten students from Kapit Parliamentary constituency have benefited from the Dermasiswa Badan Amal Dan Kebajikan Tenaga Isteri-Isteri (BAKTI) incentive programme under the constituency recently.

Of the ten students, five are Form Four students from SMK Selirik, three from SMKKapit and two from SMK Kapit 2.

Presenting the assistance to the students was the Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi on behalf of his wife Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang who is a committee member of BAKTI and the chairperson of the Women and Family Council for Kapit parliamentary constituency. It  was held at Meligai Hotel recently.

Under the Dermasiswa BAKTI programme each of the students receives cash incentive of RM600. The incentive is given for a two year successive period until they are in Form Five.

According to Nanta, the selection of the students who are eligible to receive the Dermasiswa BAKTI programme was carried out by the teachers of the respective schools as they are the ones who know those students needing such assistance.

He disclosed that each member of BAKTI was given an opportunity to provide assistance to the students under their respective parliamentary constituency that was given a quota of 10 recipients.

For Kapit parliamentary five of the students were from SMK Selirik; three from SMK Kapit and two from SMK Kapit 2.

Aware that there are many other students eligible that could benefit under the programme , Nanta pledged that he would bring out the matter to the higher authority to further increase the quota for the recipients under each parliamentary constituency.

Recipients from SMK Selirik were Effendy Aji, Alexson Machau, Kartinie Kunyi Banyang, Dewi Martini Latop and Missa Lyana Saging, from SMK Kapit Maybeline Lai Qi Jing, Hillary Jemat and Sylvester Selan Balan, from SMK Kapit 2 Anisha Garuda Ulok and Emelly Sain respectively.

Also at the function were Bukit Goram state assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat, political secretary to the Chief Minister Tapah Ata, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, KEMAS officer LeenaTero, Nanta’s Special Affairs Officer Ambrose Abong Bugek and Nanta’s Chinese Affairs Officer Penghulu Sia Shui Poh.
