India imposes tax on online gaming

NEW DELHI: Indian government on Tuesday decided to impose a tax of 28 per cent on online gaming, horse racing and casinos, and they will be taxed on full face value, announced Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

In the meantime, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council exempted cancer drugs and satellite launch services provided by private organisations from taxation, the minister said when briefing media persons after chairing the 50th meeting of the GST Council, reported Xinhua.

She also said that medicines for rare diseases and food products for special medical purposes would also be exempted from taxation.

The GST Council is a constitutional body responsible for making recommendations on issues related to the implementation of the GST in the country. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
