All the offences were committed on a fishing vessel at Muara Tabuan Light Industrial Park around 2.31am on Aug 16, 2021.

Shim sentenced Kim to 30 years in prison on the first and second charges, and four years in prison on the third.

The court ordered all sentences to run concurrently effective from the date of arrest on Aug 16, 2021.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, who was approached by Kim in a bloody state, told him to report to the police that he had attacked three men with a machete while they were sleeping.

The complainant called the police to report a fight on a fishing vessel in Kampung Tabuan Melayu.

Investigations found that Kim had started attacking the skipper (Ngu Swee Hook) using a machete in the main room of the vessel, causing serious injuries.

He then left the room and went straight to the room of the skipper’s son Ngu Yu Soon and his nephew Wong Jing Soon, and slashed both victims to death.

Swee Hook, who was injured, could hear screams from both victims before they died. After attacking the two victims, Kim went back down to the main room to attack Swee Hook but failed. He later escaped.

It is understood that the the incident stemmed from Kim, who had only been working for six months, not being satisfied as he was often bullied by two of his colleagues.

DPP Danial Mohamad Ali prosecuted while Kim was represented by counsel Ranbir Singh. An officer from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Alexandri Legawa, held a watching brief.
