SIBU: Students who did not perform well in the 2022 SPM examination or were absent during the exams will now have the chance to pursue skill training courses.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said a plan to introduce specialised courses similar to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme had been initiated here.

“Since the SPM 2022 results were announced recently, many issues have arisen where there were students who did not sit for the exams and also those who obtained unsatisfactory results,” he said in a Facebook post recently.

With a focus on supporting students with unsatisfactory results, the Nangka assemblyman stressed the importance of providing opportunities for these students rather than solely celebrating those with excellent results.

To address this, a discussion was held with Councillor Raden Khairulzaman Raden Bustari on Tuesday (June 13), aimed at implementing a programme specifically designed for students who did not achieve satisfactory results.

“In this programme, we will collaborate with various TVET-based educational institutions and skill institutions to offer SPM graduates the opportunity to continue their studies in their respective fields,” Dr Annuar explained.

“The Sibu District Education Office (PPD) will provide a list of students who did not meet the minimum qualification for entry into Form 6 or for pursuing studies at the diploma and matriculation levels.”
