International conference attracts 150 participants

KUCHING: A total of 150 participants from 16 countries participated in the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Integrated Pest and Disease Management for Quality Food Production (IPMFP2017) and International Conference on Virus Diseases: One Health-One World (ICVD2017) at Waterfront Hotel, yesterday.

The three-day  conference, which  started yesterday, was officiated by Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research and Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, Dr. Hj Annuar Rapaee.

Among the participating countries are Indonesia, Australia, India, China, Singapore, Thailand, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt and others.

The  conference was jointly organised by V Sivaram Research Foundation (RSVF) from Bangalore, India and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak branches.

“It is timely that this international conference  on  quality food production is   held in Kuching,

“Previously, our economic activities focused on agriculture, particularly  oil palm and also other commodities,

“We also have a lot of  mineral resources,  particularly oil and gas, and this has made Sarawak a unique state in the country of Malaysia because we play an important role in Malaysia’s economy,” said Rapaee.

According to the President of RSVF, Professor Dr Sivaram Venkatarame Gowda, the conference will provide a forum for exchanging new ideas and programmes in the field of crop protection and quality food production.

“The ICVF will also provide an opportunity to exchange new ideas in virus disease management in human and livestock,” said Sivaram.

Also present was  Associate Professor, Dr. Firdaus Abdullah who represented UiTM Sarawak Branches Rector, Dato Dr. Jamil Haji Hamali.
