KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) was up 2.5 per cent in November 2018 compared with the same month of 2017, says the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the growth in November was supported by an increase in the manufacturing index, which grew 3.6 per cent, compared with a 5.4 per cent growth in October, and electricity index (3.2 per cent).

In a statement today, the DOSM said that major manufacturing sub-sectors which contributed to the growth were transport equipment and other manufacturers products (8.3 per cent), electrical and electronic equipment products (5.3 per cent) and petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (3.4 per cent).

“However, the mining index fell 0.7 per cent in November due to the 1.8 per cent decline in the natural gas index, while the crude oil index increased marginally by 0.6 per cent,” it added. –Bernama
