Jobless woman nabbed in drug bust

KUCHING: A unemployed woman was arrested for drug possession following a drug bust at a house in Kampung Bintawa Hilir here.

Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said in a statement that they also seized crystalised substances believed to be syabu weighing 10.91 grammes worth about RM1,100 from the suspect.

Hasnir said that the 24-year-old suspect was detained by a team of narcotic police from the Kuching district headquarters in a raid at a house at 11.10pm on Friday following a police surveillance.

He said during the raid, the raiding team found her lying in a bedroom.

“Further inspection, we found a black plastic packaging containing ten translucent packaging (straw-lined tubes) with crystalline substances believed to be syabu.

The suspect was taken to the district headquarters for further action. She tested negative for drugs.

The woman has no prior criminal record and a remand order have been sought to facilitate police investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,”said Hasnir, adding that if convicted, the suspect faced a jail sentence of not less than two years but not more of five years, with not less than three strokes of the ratan but not more than nine.

He said all parties were welcome to cooperate with the police in the fight against drug abuse activities.
