KUCHING: A motorist’s attempt to modify the identity of his Perodua Kelisa to resemble a Daihatsu Gino was exposed by the Kuching Road Transport Department (JPJ) operation unit on Monday (Feb 19).

The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) said the unit uncovered this deception during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Khas Perayaan’, which was held to detect traffic violations in Kuching and Kota Samarahan.

They found that not only had the vehicle been illegally modified, but its road tax had expired in 2020, adding to the violation.

The unit took swift action and issued a summons notice as well as a vehicle detention notice under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In light of this, the department has reiterated its commitment to enforce traffic laws and promoting road safety, especially during festive seasons. Measures include heightened traffic enforcement, rigorous vehicle inspections, and public awareness campaigns.

To report any traffic-related concerns, members of the public can channel their complaints through the e-Aduan@JPJ app or http://jpj.spab.gov.my.
