KUCHING: The National Registration Department (JPN) in a statement yesterday pointed out that the presence of Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong at its office recently was to seek advice on identity card and citizenship applications.

This statement was issued by the JPN in reference to two postings on social media through the Facebook accounts of Azmy Awang and Salfian Nafawi on August 28 in connection with a picture of Yong at the state JPN office at Bangunan Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang here.

According to the statement, Yong had earlier on sought clarification on the application from the JPN officials on Level 4 before going to the counter at Level 2 for further business.

“Our services are transparent without ignoring the rules and laws for the sake of national security and the well-being of the people,” it added.

Meanwhile, Salfian in his posting on Facebook claimed that Yong refused to deal at the counter and had entered the office to seek Malaysian citizenship while Azmy questioned Yong’s actions at the counter by bringing Chinese people.

“She actually wanted to assist two Chinese applicants, who were permanent residents, to obtain clarification on the citizenship status application and confirmation procedures from our officers,” said JPN.

As such, it urged the public to immediately stop the spread of the postings to avoid any confusion and thus, endanger public order.

“Legal action may be taken against irresponsible individuals who disseminate false information,” it said.
