KUCHING: Kuching City FC (KCFC) head coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim revealed that the club’s management has given him a challenge to guide the club to finish in the top five of the upcoming Malaysia Super League campaign.

He admitted that even though it is not an easy task, it is not an impossible feat to achieve as well in their inaugural season in the top flight football.

“From the nine friendly matches we have played, I was able to identify the strengths and weaknesses that my squad has.

“The management has set the target to finish in the top five and I know it is not an easy task so the only thing we can do now is work hard in training,” Irfan told the reporters this after two gauntlet friendly matches held on Sunday and Monday against Sri Pahang where they lost 0-1 and 0-3 respectively.

The City Boys were underwhelming in both matches as they failed to score a goal while conceded four goals over the two matches held at Stadium Negeri.

Commenting on the status of the Brazilian defender Aylton Alemao, who was recently re-signed after his contract was initially not renewed after the season ended last season, Irfan said that he was glad to welcome Alemao back to the squad.

“We have re-signed him for another season to provide more cover for our defence, especially with the fact that we have just recently lost our new signing Mihailo Jovanovic to injury which will keep him out for some time.

“We decided to bring him back because he is used to our style of football and our league culture so it is much more easier for him to adapt than our new signings,” Irfan added.
