KUCHING: Lazada Malaysia is keen to collaborate with Sarawak to support its local entrepreneurs.

In stating this, Lazada Malaysia executive vice president Rick Ting expressed their interest to establish the collaboration through Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to be part of the Sarawak Digital Economy ecosystem.

This was said during their courtesy visit to SMA on Thursday (Jan 12).

Ting said that aside from exploring the said collaborative efforts, the company also wants to explore collaborative on-ground efforts to increase the participation from local entrepreneurs and Micro-,Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).

As such, SMA acting general manager Erny Sohana shared Sarawak’s plan to further drive the Digital Economy agenda by providing more services and opportunities that includes development programmes, funding and investment opportunities, research and development platforms, co-working spaces and more for the local entrepreneurs and innovators to expand their businesses to the regional and global market.

“As part of the state government’s policy to focus on the digital economy to propel Sarawak to achieve developed status by 2030, it is crucial that our local entrepreneurs and MSMEs, especially those in the rural areas, are given the same opportunity similar to those in the urban areas.

“With that being said, SMA is actively overseeing all the telecommunication projects in Sarawak that are being delivered as scheduled.

“This is to ensure that all Sarawakians especially in the rural areas have access to internet connectivity in order to ease their participation in online businesses.

“This will then create new skill sets and jobs for the rural community, consequently boosting the local economic growth,” she said.

Following this, she reiterated that public-private partnership is important as this will bring about successful economic transformation and growth for the betterment of all Sarawakians.
