Kilat ends gold drought for Sarawak

KUCHING: Kilat did Sarawak proud by winning the gold medal in the 60kg category at the Johor Mayor’s Cup boxing championship held from Aug 25 to 31 to end the gold drought in several tournaments this year.

Another elite boxer from Sarawak, Daeloniel McDelon defeated Farizul Hafiz Mohd David of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) team in the final for the second gold.
Two of their teammates also took home a silver and a bronze medal.

Christyuden Ripoh lost to a national boxer Muhammad Ferdaus in the 69kg category final to earn the silver while Wilson Berayin won the bronze to the 56kg category.
All of them are Sukma Johor 2020 boxing hopefuls who brought Sarawak pride as medal winners in the 2018 Perak Sukma.

Kilat whose name literally means ‘lightning’ said it was his best achievement of the year.

“Thank you, I am very happy that this time I am lucky to deliver a gold to Sarawak. “This victory will be an inspiration for me in three more boxing competions by end of this year.

“Among them is the Malaysian Cup championship in Negeri Sembilan Value from Oct 7 to 12 to be followed by the Boxing Championship for the Sukma Age Group and the Penang Fest. I will do my best,” he told Suara Sarawak on Monday.
