KPDNKK: RM12,950 compound collected from 127 cases

KUCHING: Some 12,359 premises were checked by the enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) from 1 January to 10 April this year.

Deputy Director of KPDNKK Sarawak, Abdul Hafidz Abdul Rahim said of the number, 9,377 premises were in urban areas while 2,982 premises were in the rural areas.
“The inspections were made to ensure that owners of the premises comply with the ministry’s rules and regulations,” he said.
According to Hafidz as a result of the inspections KPDNKK managed to record 127 offences under the various Acts.
“Among the offences under the various Acts were Price Control and Anti Profiteering Act, 2011, Supply Control Act 1961, Hire Purchase Act, 1967, Weigh and Measure Act, 1972, Copyrights Act 1987, Direct Sales and Anti Pyramid Scheme, 1993 and Consumers Protection Act, 1999,” he told reporters at a press conference after KPDNKK Sarawak monthly assembly at KPDNKK Sarawak premises here, yesterday.
Abdul Hafidz pointed out that 37 cases were under the Price Control and Anti Profiteering Act 2011 with a total seizure of items worth RM4,387.25 and RM4,950.00 compound collected.
He added that only eight cases were under the Supply Control Act 1961 with items seized worth RM30,000 and no compound collected.
“48 cases with items seized worth RM8,960 and compound of RM5,800 were under the Weight and Measure Act, 1972. Under the Trade Affairs Act 2011, KPDNKK recorded 33 cases with items seized worth RM237,095.20 and RM5,800 compound collected.
“Only one case was recorded under the Consumers Protection Act, 1997 with RM309 worth of items seized. No case was recorded under the Hire Purchase Act, 1967, Copyrights Act 1987 and Direct Sales and Anti Pyramid Scheme 1993,” he said.
He added that from the overall cases, RM280,751.45 worth of items were seized with a total of RM12,950.00 collected.
The monthly assembly also saw the handing over of duty between Abdul Hafidz and Mohd Nawawi Abdul Rahman. 
Abdul Hafidz is on transfer to Putra Jaya as Senior Assistant Director after serving in Sarawak for more than three years.
