Kuching mayor says ‘water fun park’ works to start in 2024

KUCHING: Construction works to transform the existing Kuching South City Council (MBKS) swimming pool into a water fun park is expected to begin next year.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the project plan has been submitted to the Land and Survey Department and Sarawak Planning Authority (SPA) for approval.

“It is hoped that the proposal will be approved by the authorities’ and we can get all the documents ready.

“Hopefully, we can speed up the whole process and get it over with by the end of this year. Then, we can call for the tender of the project and work can begin next year,” he told reporters when asked about the progress on the water fun park after attending the Pending Recreational Park upgrading project completion handover ceremony at the park here today.

Earlier this month, it was reported in a local online portal that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved the the water fun park proposal.

Wee said MBKS had met with Abang Johari and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on Feb 27 to discuss the matter.

“The Premier agreed to the project and he suggested adding more features, so that it is now much more than it was initially planned,” he said.
