KUCHING: The Kuching-Samarahan Expressway is ahead of schedule, with physical progress at 48 per cent as of December 2022, and is expected to be finished by November.

According to a statement on Tuesday (Jan 3) from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), the appointed rescue contractor was working diligently to complete the work along the route.

“The contract period is 15 months, with completion scheduled for January 2024.”

Meanwhile, due to traffic congestion issues at the five roundabouts along the expressway, construction activity has now reached the critical stage of laying sub-base road base at roundabout No. 4. (Samajaya).

“The smoothness of the traffic flow has been adversely affected by the rough surface.

“To mitigate the traffic congestion during peak hours, Sarawak JKR has instructed the contractor to carry out premix works at night.

“The premix laying at the roundabout No. 4 (Samajaya) is expected to be completed by Jan 6 (Friday), and traffic congestion is expected to improve thereafter.”
