KUCHING: Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said discussions on aligning the Sarawak Labour Ordinance with the Employment Act are now in the final stages.

He said this initiative aims to ensure workers’ rights in Malaysia are aligned across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

He said this after attending a Meet Customer Day Programme at Plaza Merdeka and Madani Chinese New Year celebration at Ranyai Ballroom, Waterfront Hotel here today (Feb 20).

“The Ministry of Human Resources is in the final stages of discussion with Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala regarding the amendments to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance.

“He visited the ministry last week to discuss the issue, and the ministry provided its views and suggestions and Gerawat has committed to bringing the discussion to the state cabinet,” he added.

Sim is confident a consensus can be reached to implement the amendments to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance soon with the cooperation and close relationship between his ministry, their counterparts, Gerawat and his team.
