LUNDU: A total of 466 land ownership letters under Section 18 of the State Land Code were distributed to 377 recipients from Kampung Siru Dayak, Kampung Gerunggang, Kampung Bengang, and Batu.

Additionally, three areas — Kampung Sampadi, Sungai Langgir, and Selenggok—received the Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette under Section 6 of the same Code for the Malay community, encompassing a total land area of 221.82 hectares.

Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan noted the Sarawak government’s consistent recognition and defense of people’s rights over Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, provided the claims are valid and comply with the law.

“The government’s commitment to defending the people’s rights to these lands can be seen through efforts to expedite the surveying and measurement processes for NCR lands.

“This initiative aims to ensure landowners have ownership documents, establish clear boundaries and prevent encroachment on landowners’ rights.”

Azizul made these remarks during his speech at the land title presentation ceremony under Section 18 of the State Land Code and the Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette under Section 6 of the same Code for Lundu and Sematan Districts.

The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at Lundu Community Hall today (Nov 16).

He underlined that survey work is only carried out with the approval and support of the involved land claimants. Survey work will not proceed if certain individuals do not want their land measured.

“For those who are interested, we will provide explanations in advance during a dialogue session on related matters before the surveying begins.

“This is to ensure that land claimants understand and provide specific feedback before the actual survey work is carried out in the field.”

Azizul reiterated the significance of land ownership documents in proving clearer boundaries, preventing disputes over the involved land.

So far, a total of 4,406 hectares for the Tanjung Datu constituency, with 1,884 hectares for individual lots, have been surveyed by the Land and Survey Department, resulting in 1,114 land ownership letters being issued.

Meanwhile, the head of the Land and Survey Department for Kuching Division, Alfian Bawi, assured that the department is committed to facilitating the desired development.

“We are always striving to ensure the crucial agenda of issuing these ownership letters can be given as soon as possible to those who are eligible.

“Therefore, the residents are urged to continue cooperating with our staff so that this task can be carried out smoothly.”
