KUCHING: The Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development is in the final stage of finalising the last miles of the road network to connect various villages in Sarawak.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this will involve approximately 5,000km of roads that will be built before 2030.

“As Sarawak aims to become a high-income region and for the people to be earning a high income, we must make sure that they are able to benefit from basic infrastructure and amenities such as road connectivity, electricity, and water, among others.

“Social inclusivity is one of the pillars in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, so it is important to ensure that development programmes, be they in infrastructure, economy, education, or health, must benefit all Sarawakians no matter where they are,” he said.

He said this at the Majlis Rumah Terbuka Hari Gawai Dayak 2023 today (June 1) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

Commenting on the event, Uggah said it is good to see people of various ethnic groups and religions coming together to celebrate the festival.

He added that such open house events provide an opportunity to further strengthen the racial harmony and unity that Sarawak has.

“The racial harmony and unity in Sarawak are something that we must be proud of; we must continue to nurture and preserve this.

“Our racial harmony and unity, strengthened by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government leadership and with the full support of the people, will allow Sarawak to continue to prosper and further develop,” he said.
