MUKAH: A local community leader leaves it to the wisdom of political leaders and the authorities over the exact date of the coming 12th state election amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are talks going around that the state polls may be held before year end, on condition that the special Emergency in Sarawak is lifted before it expires on Feb 2 next year.

Kapitan Kang Boon Eong, 55, like many Sarawakians was worried if the state election would be held this year amid the high and fluctuating Covid-19 positive cases.

He suggested that under the current situation, effort should be focused on looking after the health of the people.

This includes ensuring that the vaccination programmes were carried out smoothly according to plan in order to achieve the desired objectives.

“The vaccination programme may take time, but it is better to be safe than sorry,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

The community leader was asked to comment on the possibility that the state election may be held this year.

He pointed out that politicians know better as to when the state election would be held.
