MIRI: Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) chairman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has suggested anti-rabies vaccination programmes be carried out in many different places here for the convenience of dog owners.
“This is also to reduce overcrowding during a mass vaccination process,” he told local media on Saturday.
Earlier, Lee who is state Transport Minister, visited a mass vaccination programme held at Taman Awam Miri by the Veterinary Services Department.
As of 4pm, a total 700 dogs were vaccinated in the programme which will continue on Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
Lee said the programme is part of the government’s approach to preventing the spread of rabies.
“As we all know, a rabies case was reported in Marudi recently, and with Miri being close to Marudi, dog owners must bring their dogs for vaccination,” he said.
Also present were councillor Jeffery Phang and Miri DVS assistant senior officer Hasnul Abdullah Buyong.
