I think our athletes are a pampered lot! I refer to your headline story ‘Appreciate what’s given!’ (New Sarawak Tribune, Nov 28).
During my days as an athlete, the very fact that I was chosen to represent Sarawak in the 60s and 70s was an honour and we felt that was a reward by itself.
I had to borrow from my parents to buy a pair of spikes and an affordable jersey. And we returned home with a medal we were happy.
But these days our spoil brat athletes are demanding the moon. Just because the sports council decided to give them RM2,000 less from the originally pledged RM5,000, they are crying foul!
Get real fellas! Be patriotic!
