Lions aid fire victims in Sibu

SIBU: Lions International District 308-A2 Region 2 and 3 provided swift relief for fire victims who lost their homes in a recent fire at Kampung Bahagia Jaya Tengah, Teku here.

The assistances, which were delivered yesterday at Teku Community Hall includes hardware supplies, food and daily necessities for the fire victims.

A total of RM1,510 was spent for the purchase of these items by the District 308-A2 Foundation. District Chairperson for Alert, Datuk Jimmy Tie also presented cash donation to the fire victims.

Immediate Past District Govenor, Kapitan Connie Loh Ming Hua who is also District 308-A2 Foundation Chairperson, handed over the supplies to a representative of the fire victims.

Among those present to witness the handover ceremony were Past District Govenor Datuk Betty Wong Yieng, Zone 4 Chairperson Godfrey Ting, District Chairperson Drug Awareness Desmond Chung and other Lions members.

In the fire incident on Jan 31 at about 5 am, three families comprising 13 members were rendered homeless after their houses at Kampung Bahagia Jaya Tengah, Teku were razed by fire.

Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. However, the fire destroyed a car, a van and three motorcycles. The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still being ascertained.
