SIBU: Three Lions Clubs here—Lions Club of Sibu Berjaya, Lions Club of Sibu Dudong, and Lions Club of Sibu Rejang—collaborated to donate 42 new clocks to the Sibu General Hospital recently.

Organising chairman Penghulu Steven Tiew handed over the clocks to hospital director Dr Nanthankumar, witnessed by Lions International director Huang Changwei and Lions District 308-A2 governor Kapitan Ronny Hiew Ah Choi.

According to Tiew, these clocks will be distributed to the hospital’s various departments, consultation rooms, and patient wards, replacing the outdated and damaged ones.

Hiew said when it comes to meeting challenges, the Lions’ response is simple: “We serve. Serving the community is something that unites Lions around the world and it is unconditional.”

He highlighted that Lions help wherever, whenever and however they could.

Volunteers like Lions members, he said are a ray of hope for those whose lives are plunged in the darkness of despair.

If the world becomes a better place tomorrow, it will happen because of volunteers, he said, adding that hope for mankind’s brighter future lies in selfless acts of giving and volunteering.

Meanwhile, Huang said he was honoured to be able to participate in the activities of District 308-A2 Lions Clubs.

Despite being a small town, he said Sibu has 16 Lions Clubs, which makes the international Lions Club proud and gratified.

“The excellent relationship and cooperation between the hospital and the local Lions Clubs are heartwarming. The sincere service of Lion friends has deeply touched and inspired me,” Huang added.
