SIBU: Traffic police here arrested a local man for driving under the influence of alcohol in an operation codenamed ‘Op Mabuk’ last night (June 30).

The operation took place at Jalan Channel from 10pm until 1am.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that the team detained a 43-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The man will be investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today (July 1).

Throughout the operation, summonses were issued for various offenses, such as driving without a license, making structural or exhaust modifications, lacking registration numbers, failing to display the mandatory “P” sticker, not having side mirrors, and incomplete accessories.

“The public is advised not to drive under the influence of alcohol in order to ensure their own safety and that of others,” Zulkipli added.
