Lorry driver, passengers fined for SOP violation

Police found four men violating physical distancing rule.

SIBU: For sitting side by side in a lorry, the driver and his three passengers were fined RM1,000 each for violating movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP) on Thursday (Feb 4).

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the four men were spotted sitting closely in the vehicle and did not practice physical distancing.

They were stopped by the MCO SOP monitoring team from the Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division in Jalan Lebuh Tinggi around 10.30am.

“The team led by DSP Ariffin Bahar found the men aged between 17 and 43, sitting close to each other in the front seat of the lorry.

The offenders were issued a RM1,000 fine for offenses under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations (Measures in Local Infected Areas) (No.2) 2021.

The four were given a 14-day period to settle the fine at the divisional health office.
