KUCHING: Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be stepping up its anti-corruption efforts in Sarawak, including reviewing some of those complaints made before the change of government last year.

According to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, this was the assurance given by MACC’s Deputy of Investigation Division Datuk Izani Wan Ishak when the latter called at his office yesterday.

In a statement issued to the press, Chong added that Izani had enquired about the issues raised at the DAP Sarawak Committee’s press conference in Sibu last Sunday.

The DAP Sarawak chairman, who is the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister, said he brought to the attention of the MACC officer the concerns of many Sarawakians that MACC Sarawak had not been proactive and aggressive in the fight against corruption in Sarawak, especially cases involving high profile personalities.
