SERIAN: It is crucial for community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) to maintain accurate data on their followers and longhouse profiles to facilitate the effective implementation of government initiatives.

In stating this, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said such data is essential for the successful execution of development programs, projects, and activities, as well as for ensuring that aid reaches those in need seamlessly.

Uggah asserted that KMKK serves as a bridge between the people and the government; thus, it is crucial for KMKK to stay informed on current issues, particularly government development programmes.

“We have this data, so you can play a role in supporting the state government’s administration to develop our villages. So, I hope we manage this data properly.

“You must understand all the development programmes implemented by our Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government. You must know how the government helps the people, whether in rural or urban areas. It’s for everyone.

“If you (KMKK) don’t understand, how can we communicate to the people what programmes have been planned and arranged by the GPS government for the state?” said Uggah.

He said this at the ‘Serumpu Makai Lemai’ Ceremony organised by the Association of Iban Community Leaders and Longhouse Chiefs of Serian Division at the Serian Community Hall last night (Feb 24).

As such, he called for collaboration and mutual assistance, emphasising the necessity for feedback from all KMKKs regarding adequacy and areas for improvement.

Uggah reiterated the GPS government’s openness to suggestions and dedication to Sarawak’s development, including Serian.

“The GPS government is open to your proposals and committed to finding ways to aid in the development of Sarawak, including Serian,” he said.

Additionally, he announced a contribution of RM30,000 to the Association of Iban Community Leaders and Longhouse Chiefs of Serian Division, supplemented by RM20,000 from Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan, RM10,000 from Tarat assemblyman Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, and RM10,000 from Kedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben, amounting to RM70,000.
