KUCHING: Cahaya Mata Sarawak (CMS) road maintenance team is still doing maintenance and temporary repairs on the poor road conditions at Jalan Sungai Tapang.

In stating this, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said that in order to proceed with rectification works, the CMS team would carry out testing on affected damaged areas as highlighted in a recent statement by Michael Kong, who is the special assistant to Democratic Action party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, as not all the areas had such problems.

“As discussed on Dec 28, the contractor and CMS road maintenance team are working together to monitor the road condition of Jalan Kampung Sungai Tapang and to make sure that it is safe for public users.

“It is estimated that the timeline for full testing and repair is within two weeks,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

With the commitment to the proper maintenance of Jalan Kampung Sungai Tapang by the Public Works Department (JKR), CMS Road maintenance team and contractor, he said its progress would be monitored continuously as to what was agreed upon during the discussion on Dec 28.

For the record, Kong had recently highlighted the public complaints about the poor road condition at Jalan Sungai Tapang.

He stated that there were potholes along the stretch near Trienekens’ headquarters here, despite the completion of repair works on it about two months ago.

“It is shocking that despite recent repair works, there are now potholes along that same stretch. At some parts of the road, there are even crocodile cracks.

“Such poor condition clearly means that the works undertaken by the previous contractor were not up to standards. It’s clear that the road base was not done properly, causing ponding of water underground that leads to the crocodile cracks,” he said.
