Malaysian caught smuggling cigarettes into Brunei

LIMBANG: A Malaysian is held by the Brunei Darussalam authorities early today as he was caught trying to smuggle in six cartons of cigarettes into the neighbouring country.

Brunei Darussalam Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Police Azhan Anuar said they succeeded in preventing an attempted smuggling by the Malaysian believed to be from Limbang, Sarawak around 6:40am today.

“The incident happened not far from Limau Manis Mosque, Brunei at the time when our enforcers were on patrol,” he said.

The patrol conducted was based on intelligence intel as well as tips from the public regarding smuggling activities around the area.

Other than that, Azhar also said that cooperation from members of the public is vital in preventing smuggling activities from occurring in the future.

He also advised members of the public to not be involved in criminal activities.
