The suspect arrested by police for stealing bird’s nest at a farm at Jalan Salim, Sibu.

SIBU: A man was caught red-handed stealing bird’s nest by police at a bird’s nest farm at Jalan Salim here yesterday.

Sibu District Police chief, ACP Saiful Bahari Abdullah said acting on information received, a team from Lanang Police Station rushed to the scene at around 4.15pm.

“Upon arrival, the police personnel immediately entered the premises and detained the suspect who was about to leave the scene with the stolen bird’s nest.

“Early investigation revealed that the 36-year-old suspect admitted that he was acting alone and he had parked his four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle some distance away from the farm to avoid detection,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

Saiful Bahari said the suspect had four previous criminal records. He also said the owner of the bird’s nest farm had lodged a police report on the incident and the case would be investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
