MIRI: In his bid to evade arrest, a man abandoned his motorcycle by the roadside and ran towards the bushes nearby after seeing neighbourhood watch members at Jalan Pujut 7D here on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at around 3.00am while Pujut Zone neighbour watch members were patrolling the area when they spotted a man sitting on a motorcycle by the roadside behaving suspiciously.

A spokesman of the neighbourhood watch committee said as they approached the man, he sped off, prompting them to give chase.

“Upon reaching Jalan Pujut 5D, the man abandoned the motorcycle and ran towards the bushes nearby.

“We tried to look for him, but failed,” he said, adding that they had alerted the police on the incident.

The spokesman said the police arrived at the scene and a check on the motorcycle revealed that it was reported missing at Bintang Megamall last Sunday.

The motorcycle was later brought to Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.
