Man fined RM1,500 for threatening HR executive

KUCHING: An administrative staff of a construction company threatened to punch his human resource (HR) management executive after his request for a salary raise of RM4,000 was not approved.

However, the action backfired when Kelvin Law Hee Chai was sentenced to a fine of RM1,500 in default four months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday (Apr 26).

Law pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

If convicted, Law can be sentenced to an imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine or both.

Based on the charge sheet, he is accused of deliberately issuing criminal threats against a 48-year-old female victim who works as a HR management executive.

Law committed the offence at the company’s office in Jalan Lapangan Terbang, on Apr 24 at 1.20 pm.

According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident the complainant, who was the company’s HR management executive, was at work when Law approached and threatened to punch her.

The incident happened because the accused requested a salary increase of RM4,000 but the company ignored his request.

In addition, Law got angry and also punched the door and tried to break things in the office.

Law was then arrested by security guards on duty before being handed over to the police for further action.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Law was not represented by a legal counsel.
