Prior to the incident, Faizal was repairing his motorcycle and could not find a screwdriver.

Later, his father advised him to search more carefully for the items.

Angered by the reprimand, Faizal went amok and damaged the door using an iron rod, and tearing curtains and breaking flower pots.

He then went out to the front of the house and broke his mother’s flower vase while threatening to set the house on fire later.

Fearing for his safety, the father filed a police report for further action, which led to his son’s arrest on April 18.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Faizal was unrepresented by counsel.
