Police taking Selvakumar’s body to Sarawak General Hospital.

KUCHING: The remains of a man were found in a rented upper room of a shophouse at MJC New Township Batu Kawa yesterday.

The deceased identified as Selvakumar Subramaniam, 31, from Jerantut in Pahang, was found in the prone position on the floor.

Padawan district police headquarters spokesperson said police received a call about 10.36am from the deceased’s brother who came upon the body about 10am after he forced open the room door that was locked from within.

It is believed that the deceased had died two days prior to the discovery judging by the state of decomposition and odour.

According to the elder brother, the deceased was the third of six siblings. Before he came to Kuching, the elder brother was contacted by the younger sibling who told him he was suffering from stress but did not specify the causes.

A bottle was of insect poison was found in a corner of the deceased’s room. The cap had been opened.

Initial investigations also revealed that the deceased rented the room with an Indonesian friend who had returned to his country a few weeks ago.

The deceased had stayed in Batu Kawah for the past three weeks.

Police have ruled out foul play and the case had been classified as sudden death pending the results of post-mortem on the body. The police would release more details soon.
