Man gets one year’s imprisonment for intentionally damaging father’s car

KUCHING: A man has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Magistrates’ Court for intentionally damaging his father’s car by colliding with a parking pole in front of their house.

The incident took place in May when the man became upset after losing a gambling game.

Syaifuddin, 38, pleaded guilty on Friday (June 9) to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which states that he intentionally caused mischief by damaging the property of the 64-year-old victim’s Proton Persona car in front of their residence in Kampung Haji Baki on May 30 at around 11am.

The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term not less than one year and not exceeding five years, a fine, or both.

According to the facts presented in court, Syaifuddin became furious after losing the gambling game and drove the complainant’s car recklessly, colliding with a parking pole and causing scratches on the rear door of the vehicle.

The estimated loss incurred by the complainant amounts to approximately RM500.

Concerned for his safety, the complainant lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused on the same day.

The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, while the accused did not have legal representation during the proceedings.
