Man gets RM4k fine for trespassing

SIBU: A man was fined RM4,000, in default three months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (Aug 1) for trespassing.

Magistrate Punitha Sivaraji passed down the sentence on Aeddy Suhai, 32, from Batang Rassai after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was charged with committing trespass by breaking an auto-lock steel door and entering the stair hallway of a shoplot at Lorong Dr Wong Soon Kai at about 11.15pm on July 22.

The offence is punishable under Section 448 of the Penal Code, which upon conviction, calls for imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of RM5,000.
Based on the case brief, the shop owner, who is the complainant, heard noises on the ground floor of his shoplot.

He then checked the closed circuit television and saw an unknown man (the accused) breaking the auto-lock steel door and heading upstairs towards his wife’s beauty salon on the first floor.

The complainant together with his wife went to check and apprehended the accused. He then alerted the police.

The accused, who was unrepresented by a lawyer, opted to pay the fine.
