SIBU: A 30-year-old local man was arrested in a shop at Jalan Kampung Nangka for possessing 96.73 grams of cannabis worth RM1,750 on Wednesday (Aug 24).

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement yesterday said that the suspect was arrested approximately at 1.50 pm.

“As a result of the inspection, seven bottles of plastic containers (vape juice bottles) with various labels were found containing liquids suspected to be marijuana or cannabis.

“Estimated gross weight 96.73 grams (value at the time of drug seizure estimated at rm1750.00),” he said.

Also seized during the inspection were 133 pills suspected as Psychotropic pills (value at the time of seizure RM190.00)

According to Zulkipli, a urine screening test conducted found that the suspect tested positive for the drug THC.

“The suspect was subsequently arrested under section 39A (2) ADB 1952, section 30(3) Poison Act 1952 and section 15(1) ADB 1952,” he said.

The suspect was remanded for five days to assist the investigation.

“The penalty for an offense under section 39A (2) ADB 1952 if convicted is life imprisonment or five years imprisonment and not more than 10 lashes.

“While for offenses under section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, the fine does not exceed RM10,000 or a maximum of 4 years imprisonment or both.

“The penalty for section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952 is a fine of not more than RM5000 and imprisonment of not more than two years or both and supervision for two years under section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
