Man jailed for possessing stolen motorcycle

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to seven months in prison for possessing a stolen Modenas motorcycle last August.

Muhammad Haikal Abdullah, 41, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

The section carries up to five years in prison and liable to a fine, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, a 53-year-old man lodged a police report about the loss of his motorcycle, which was parked under his residential building in Chong Lin Park around 11.10 pm on June 22.

On August 12, at around 12.05 am, the police managed to arrest Haikal who was riding a motorcycle believed to be stolen around Lorong Tong Wei Tah.

Investigation found that the motorcycle belonged to the complainant as it was reported missing in June and the motorcycle’s engine chassis number confirmed that it belonged to the complainant.

Therefore, Haikal has committed an offence of possessing stolen property of a motorcycle.

Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a counsel.
