Man jailed for threatening father over money

KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to seven months in prison and fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for damaging property and threatening to harm his father because he was not given the money he demanded.

Muhamad Nur, 24, from Kampung Bintawa Hilir, pleaded guilty to two charges read to him in front of Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi.

Under the first charge, he was accused pursuant to Section 506 of the Penal Code for intentionally issuing threats to harm his 65-year-old father.

Meanwhile, for the second charge, he was accused under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by damaging property such as a fan and breaking a door, causing a loss of RM120.

Muhamad Nur committed the offense at their residence in Kampung Bintawa Hilir, around 11 pm on September 27.

Syarifah imposed a seven-month prison sentence for the first charge, while for the second charge, a fine of RM2,000 or in default, additional prison time, was imposed on the accused.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant’s son went into a rage and kicked the door and damaged a fan.

The prosecution was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
