MIRI: A man was arrested after he allegedly stole various daily necessities amounting to more than RM600 at a supermarket in Boulevard in Miri on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested at 5.30pm by security guards while walking out of the supermarket.

According to sources, before that, the suspect was seen in suspicious condition when inserting some items into plastic bags. He said the suspect then left the premises without making any payment at the counter.

“Subsequently, two security guards then arrested him and checked the plastic bags that the suspect brought that were found containing some items including clothing, toothbrush and mineral water.

“The suspect was later detained after failing to file payment receipts for items found with him,” he said. He said the suspect and the stolen items were then handed over to the police for further action.

Following the arrest, the suspect was charged at Makhamah Magistrate yesterday and he was sentenced to two years’ jail term after pleading guilty to an offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
