MIRI: A local man was killed after being hit by a car on Thursday night near Kampung Kelulit located along the Miri Coastal road.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu revealed that the deceased was identified as Ampenit Apau from Rumah Suring Saeh Merah.
“Ampenit died on the spot due to injuries sustained in the 11.20pm incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, the car’s driver was unharmed.
Prior to the incident, the driver was heading towards Miri from Bintulu.
According to Alexson, apparently the driver could not hit the brake in time when he realised the victim was standing in the middle of the road.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
